Water is of course one of the keys to plant life and growing grass

in the desert makes it even more crucial. Our water is reclaimed

water that is received from the city of Tucson. It is delivered to

us at two locations, the lakes on #9 North and #4 South. If you

have ever wondered how it gets from there to the turf, here is

some information on the heart of any golf course, the pump

     station.

To start, here is an illustration showing how the irrigation lake is

connected to the pump station. From the lake water enters the

pump station through an intake line that is well below the

surface of the water, typically about two feet in diameter. This

intake line leads to a wet well inside the pump station. The water

level inside the wet well is always equal to that of the lake. Inside

the wet well, a submersible pump is connected to a vertical

turbine motor by a pump shaft.
