JOHN LEWIS HBCU FUND
The John Lewis HBCU Voter Campaign Fund was created to support the roughly 100 Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) in America. The fund aims to provide financial, educational, and organizing support to student leaders at HBCUs to increase student voter participation. Each HBCU can receive up to $2000 to mobilize and increase voter registration efforts on their campuses. We have witnessed overwhelming support from our member boulés by sending their funds towards the VCF right now as they hold their monthly meetings. A more detailed report will be available once election day passes. We will have more accurate information from the Lawyers’ Committee about our efforts and the specific HBCUs funded.
REGIONAL EFFORTS
PACIFIC REGION
The Pacific Region has raised more than $100,000 from member boulés in the Pacific Re- gion for the Yes on Proposition 16 campaign to reinstate California’s affirmative action. This was an effort led by Past Regional Sire Archon Michael Keeley and Past Grand Sire Archon Robert Harris.
Additionally, Regional Sire Archon George Strait and Archon Karl Gentles, Gamma Mu, de- veloped an Archon voter engagement strategy to help get out the Pacific Region’s African American vote. Archon Gentles worked with each state’s voting officials to secure phone ban- king information provided to each Past Regional Sire Archon for distribution to their members.
SOUTHEAST REGION
The Southeast Region Social Action Committee initiated a major campaign to “Get out the Vote and Consider Voting Early.” Member boulés across the southeast are partnering with local NAACP chapters, churches, fraternities and other community organizations to energize the “Get out the Vote” effort. Additionally, Archons are participating in rallies and serving as poll monitors on Election Day. Southeast Region Sire Archon Roy Irons kicked off the campaign by challenging Archons not only to vote but to work diligently within their respective communities to encourage other eligible voters to participate in the upcoming election.
NORTH EAST REGION
A Quad Boulé political event featuring Congressman Jim Clyburn to discuss the importance of the election and getting out the vote was hosted by Zeta, Mu, Alpha Sigma and Beta Zeta on September 26.
