YOUNG ADULT CAREER SYMPOSIUM (YACS)
Archon Christopher J. Tyson
The Young Adult Career Symposium (YACS) Committee has met once in the first 100 days of the 2020–22 biennium. The meeting was held by Zoom call on August 19, 2020. Archons Vince Adams, Samuel Bacote, Warren Birkett, Christian Gonzalez, Robert Langford, Dwayne Murray, Al Ragland, and Christopher Tyson were in attendance.
At the opening of the meeting, Grand Sire Archon Murray delivered greetings and expressed his vision for the committee’s work as well as important considerations given the YACS planning done for the 2020 Grand Boulé. Immediate past YACS chair, Archon Ragland, shared about the commit- tee’s work over the past biennium and his reflections on the implications of the canceled 2020 YACS program on the planning for the 2022 YACS program. The committee discussed outreach to past YACS participants through the development of social media–based groups that will allow them to participate in the next YACS program planning. The committee also discussed organizing itself into the following subcommittees: Programming, Community Service Activity, Fundraising and Logistics.
The committee also discussed whether the YACS should have its own mission statement and strategic plan. These features were considered important to a comprehensive capital campaign to fund an expanded program for the 2022 Grand Boulé. Since the meeting the committee has re- ceived the database of past YACS participants from the Office of the Grand Boulé and is scheduled to meet again on October 21, 2020. The committee anticipates conducting outreach to past YACS participants before the end of October.
