City Council
City of San Jose
Council Members,
Please accept my resume as interest in applying for the position of Assistant Director of Finance for the City of San
Jose. I will be glad to supply additional documentation upon request.
I am currently working as the Assistant County Administrative Officer for the County of Monterey with emphasis on
countywide administration and fiscal operations. Prior to this assignment I held the position of Budget Director,
responsible for countywide budgeting and organizational analysis. Since 2013 I have been the Assistant County
Administrative Officer and this experience has expanded my skills in all areas relevant to public administration and
financial management of a California public agency. Within this role I oversee a wide variety of functions, including
policy development, community relations, fiscal management, information technology, and capital improvements. I
am confident that this recent, as well as prior operations experience, will translate into real value for the City of San
Jose if I were successfully selected as the next Assistant Director of Finance.
I have found the key to effective public and financial administration is understanding how and when to adapt to each
individual issue which presents and always be willing to see other perspectives. My service history at the County of
Monterey has provided me the opportunity to understand and work towards solutions on many diverse and complex
challenges. Public agencies are responsible for a wide variety of services from public safety to recreation, and my
experience of juggling issues in this diverse work environment has required quick thinking, flexibility and
adaptability, while continuing to drive results for the community.
My strength in public finance is based on a core drive to conduct good public business to ensure transparency,
sustainability and accountability to the community. This basis of service has assisted me in building relationships
with key individuals and organizations to get the job done. I hope your review of my qualifications determines that I
am a fit with the current recruitment opportunity. I truly believe my professional drive combined with years of
experience will allow me to serve the City of San Jose well for many years.
Sincerely,
Dewayne Woods, MPA, CGFM
