In 2012 I negotiated gravel supply contract for county roads for next ten year which
resulted in savings of $40,000 annually.
$950,000 in grants to replace three old bridges in Camden Par. This was competitive
application grant process since only $2.3 M was available for whole state. This also
required combined multiple funds and working with several agencies.
Conducted a study to understand Highway labor resources and created recommendations to
change work force structure. With County Board’s approval amended labor resources for
Highway Maintenance Operation, net saving of $450,000 annually and increased
productivity.
Expanded Highway Maintenance Force’s scope of work, net saving of $35,000 annually.
Mandated cooperation between departments within Public Works Division, net savings
$75,000 annually.
Mandated certain positions within Public Works to get Commercial Driving License in
order to help winter operations. Other existing CDL holders were mandated to help winter
operations. This resulted in improved efficiency and savings for winter operation.
Expand Engineering Department’s role to help other departments with their technical
needs, this resulted in improved operations.
Reviewed and improved County Judicial ditches repair contracting process this change
resulted in huge savings for county ditches.
Changed the Parks Department’s management structure, resulted in huge efficiency and net
savings of $85,000 annually.
Pursued grants to purchase forty acres of land to develop a brand new park. County
received $379,000 in grants to purchase 40 acres, build picnic shelter, bathrooms and
engineering fees to design and develop the park. Master Planning for this park is in
process.
Mandated GIS department in 2009 to bring 25% of revenue through services to other
government entities in the region over five year period, resulted in 15% of GIS
department’s revenue in 2011. This lowered dependence on levy dollars and increased
GIS’s experience dealing with complex problems.
Expanded GIS’s role e.g. GIS now maintains inventory of Highway signs and currently
working on creating an inventory of culverts.
Changed Environmental office’s image by settling law suits and disputes with neighbors
and contractors, resulting in huge savings and political good will.
Lead my team to build 14 bridges graded 13.1 miles of road and finished 27.5 miles of mill
and overlay projects.
Secured $1,483,000 competitive grant money for Public Works project.
As of today over 3 million dollars of grant applications are pending.
Overhauled county’s bridge safety inspection program and developed a comprehensive
format above FHA’s minimum standards. This effort resulted in State including one of our
safety inspection reports in their 2012 training manual as a sample for other counties.
Note: This is not an all-inclusive list; this is highlight of the most recent achievements.
