Why are you interested in the Director of Public Works position with the City of Sacramento?
Tell me a bit about what you know about the City.
I'm definitely interested in the position. I've worked with Hector and interacted with Hector and several
other members of the City. I know that they are a lot larger than SACRT - they are starting to get some
real movement with innovation and some real out of the box types of things. I've worked with Hector - we
coordinate on projects quite a bit. I have monthly meetings with him - I know Hector, I know what he's
about. I work with some of his other members as well - Ryan, Sparky.
Please describe your most recent position and day-to-day responsibilities.
Currently, I am VP of Engineering for SAC RT - I provide strategic direction leadership over design,
construction management, quality, assurance, and facilities. I make sure we are meeting goals and
timelines and report up to make sure everyone is kept up to date. I make sure all of my staff has
resources to get everything done on time and within budget.
Supervising - 5 people supervising.

Please describe a project in which you played a major role in creating pathways for
improvement for those in your community.
Internally, there was a concern with RT that the coordination/collaboration wasn't going very well. I
made sure that we had monthly meetings with finance, legal, and with operations. I wanted to make sure
everyone was in the loop and we all understood where we were headed. Now we were being more cost
effective and streamlined in what we were doing which allowed us to be more cost effective and
streamlined in what we were doing.
Please describe your experience in evaluating innovation and operational procedure utilized
in a City department and your approach to staying at the forefront of industry.
Just trying to get the best practices about how things are done. We ended up using a database to
upload all of our projects - finance and all that stuff in one location so that anyone in the district could pull
it, to make sure that everyone can get the information they need without having to hunt for the projects
they need. The database had all the pertinent information in it.
Please describe your experience in the areas of public transportation and traffic reduction.
I've been in the field for over 20 years - I worked for some private firms, doing roadway design, than I
moved to the transportation authority where I got more to the public side where I got into roadway
projects, Sacramento regional transit, some facility upgrades. I have been involved in transportation. We
work with the City and SaCOG in implementing jump back charging stations as well as first-mile and last-
mile stuff.
