Why are you interested in the Director of Public Works position with the City of Sacramento?
Tell me a bit about what you know about the City.

I grew up in Sacramento. I have family still in the area. I am a recent retiree for the Marine Corp and
came back to Sacramento. Both parents and children are all settled in the area. Feel that my experience
was applicable. I feel that I can certainly run through the effort with the City.

Please describe your most recent position and day-to-day responsibilities.

My most recent position was as a Director of Installations and Logistics at the recruit depot at San
Diego - my day to day responsibilities were to make sure the facilities were providing appropriate
practices around recruiting. It was a very important task that was running 365 days per year. Involved the
maintenance and planning of facilities, the replacement of any facilities as needed. Also working on a
budget - I manage a budget there for the maintenance and the power consumption and utilities within
federal guidelines seeking out ways to reduce energy costs. I also managed the transportation efforts for
the recruit depot. Anytime we were moving recruits to and from the airports - that was coordinated
through my office. I ran the dining facility there for all the recruits and permit personnel. There was never
a break in training and recruiting.

Please describe a project in which you played a major role in creating pathways for improvement
               for those in your community.
We developed an antiquated steam power plant into a natural gas facility - aboard the installation. 27
million project to reduce our energy bill basically - we were spending roughly 2 million dollars per year -
converting from our power plant into packaged boilers, we can reduce our energy costs significantly -
about $1.7m savings annually. That was a multi-year project from design to implementation. I spent a
significant amount of time around engineering planning and development. Navy engineers that worked
within the region, up at headquarters in Washington DC. Both local, regional, and federal level of
funding. Went through finding a contractor that could find the result - it resulted in significant savings in
               our annual energy costs.

Please describe your experience in evaluating innovation and operational procedure utilized in a
City department and your approach to staying at the forefront of industry.

We converted some LED into fluorescent lights. We moved to LED lighting vs. the incandescent bulb
method. Stayed at the forefront of new development for light source. Tried to reduce the lines of fossil
               fuels and electric.

Please describe your experience in the areas of public transportation and traffic reduction.

Not so much with public transportation - certainly with traffic reduction - San Diego is a big city that is
not growing any real estate near the harbor. As a facility with a lot of people, we were helping the City
with finding alternative means for moving recruits to and from the installation. Transit to and from on a
daily basis - was trying to encourage the use of public transportation, biking.
