VOCABULARY
Grade Level: Second Grade and Above
Prerequisite: Decoding Game, Play Onwards, and Work on Words
Skill Developed: Ability to understand and define monosyllabic words and derivatives sharing the same
stem.
Objective: To cite the meanings of the various words on the backside of cards.
How to Play: This game may be played in two ways: For young players, they themselves should choose the
words that they will attempt to define. And for older players, the parent should pick the words according to
their greater ability. (This latter way of play is suggested when students of different ability play the game
at the same time. In such a case, the teacher should pick commonly used words for beginners and less
frequently used words for advanced students.)
Notes: One, whenever a word needs to be looked up in the electronic dictionary, the parent left clicks on
it twice, then right clicks on it once. After that, when the word appears in the bottom box of the
drop-down menu, she should click on it. Two, all the words on the cards may be used in this game.
Scoring: One point is awarded for each word defined correctly. (No consideration is given to grammatical
correctness.)
