Out here in the west

As he rode back towards the prairie flats

A place to rest his weary head
The coyotes made their nightly rounds

Near the place he’d make his bed.

                                          He eyed the snow-capped mountains
                                                    Out here I the west

                                           The cowboy’s thoughts reflected on

Some things he loved the best

To the bawling of the cattle
                                                 The drifting of the wind

                                                The creaking of the saddle
                                                 The pride he felt within

                                             To the prairie sentry watchdogs
As they scurry to and fro

The sight and sound of nature
An the places that he’d go

To the river, stream and canyons

                                                 The valleys green below
He paused to watch the setting sun

                                             Display its evening golden show

Happiness was the little things I life

                                               This sunset passed the test
He was thankful for this moment

                                                   Out here in the west.
