Now I ain't saying this Griz was mean
but a bear is still a bear.
His teeth were sharp, he was primed to fight
he'd do this deed with flair.
The bear stood up all rank and tall
there was anger in his stare.
Rusty stood his ground
And matched him glare for glare.
We might think of dogs as dogs
We're masters to them all.
But that night of fright, I saw the light
Ol Rusty'd take the fall.
He showed all heart and courage
No man could ever match.
If this bear had brought the key
Ol Rusty would be the latch.
This griz must weigh a thousand pounds
An presented quite a sight.
But he respected courage
An tonight there'd be no fight.
This bear held the key to the promised land
With one swipe of his mighty paw.
But the courage shown by Rusty that night
Had filled this bear with awe.
