The truth is, our government can only do so much
to help, so I have decided to take matters into my
own hands because I don't want this to happen to
another child again.
ONE YEAR LATER
A year has passed since my daughter approached
me with that devastating news. For a year, I couldn't
find a solution. I did not want to start a non-profit
because there was an aspect of this type of resolution
that would not allow me to accomplish my original
goal and intention. I spent a year trying to find a
financial solution that could solve the problem.
During this search, I heard Blake Mycoskie, on the
news, about how he founded a for-profit company
named TOMS that supplies young children, poor
areas, with shoes.
During the news interview, he mentioned a book
he wrote, Start Something that Matters, to explain
his journey. As soon as he said the title, I went to
Amazon, bought the Kindle version, and read it in
one sitting. The content was an eye-opener; it was
