“Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the
world together” – Woodrow Wilson
Throughout the tough period the world has been going
through, I heartily agree with the above statement,
friendship has been the only thing that has kept us going.
Having been a member of the Rotaract Club of University
of Peradeniya right from the start of my University
journey, and then being endowed with the honour of
serving as the Secretary of club for the years 2020/21, I
have been fortunate enough to fall in with a group of
people who could really hold the world together.
Taking the opportunity to briefly mention the achievements that we have made as a club during the
past year, I am proud to say that we have successfully completed 41 projects covering all the major
avenues of service and hosted 5 district projects as well. Once again, I should reiterate the fact that it
is the large membership base of our Club, covering all 9 faculties of the University and breaking all
geographical, ethnic and any other boundaries, that has allowed the Rotaract Club of University of
Peradeniya to reach this pinnacle of success.
I truly admire the President, Rtr. Ravindu Seneviratne and IPP Rtr. Lahiru Dissanayake for the level of
dedication and commitment they have shown in driving the Club to the position it is in now, which I
could modestly say, has broken all previous boundaries. The Executive Committee and the Board of
Directors played a crucial role in this, as no person could single-handedly manage all the activities of
such a large organisation.
Our senior treasurer, Dr. B.M.K. Pemasiri, senior lecturer in the Faculty of Science, University of
Peradeniya has always been a major pillar of strength behind the success of what we have done. We
are immensely grateful to you, sir, for what you have done for the Club throughout the years.
I sincerely appreciate the efforts of my forever-supportive Assistant Secretary, Rtr. Supipi
Wijesundara for being hyperactive and constantly helping me out with everything I had to do. Last
but not least, I would like to mention the editorial team of our Club, remembering the hard work they
put in throughout the year.
Viva la Rotaract!
Rtr. Tharana Wasalaarachchi
