The project “Piyapath” was carried out by focusing on four major Rotary focus areas. Under the focus
area of Disease prevention and treatment, hand sanitizers and other necessities were donated to the
school in order to maintain the proper hygiene within the whole school community during COVID 19
pandemic situation. Furthermore, a First aid kit with all the necessities was donated to the school
that can be used for emergencies. By considering the Water and sanitation Rotary focus area, a toilet
complex which was abandoned due to poor quality was renovated to provide healthy and clean
sanitary facilities to the students while enhancing the personal hygiene of the students. The blocked
toilets were cleaned and the damaged walls and doors were repaired. After that, a new water
distribution system was installed in the particular renovated toilets. Under Basic Education and
Literacy, a seminar series was conducted for the grade 11 students to uplift the knowledge of the
main subjects such as Mathematics, Science, and English. Apart from that, relevant notes were
prepared and distributed among the students, with the contribution of the undergraduates of the
University of Peradeniya and Uva Wellassa University. Moreover, some motivational counseling
sessions were conducted to boost the enthusiasm of the students while assisting them to reach their
future targets with a proper plan. As the final step under this focus area, some informative books
were donated to the school library, the volleyball court was renovated and new nets and volleyballs
were given in order to enhance the sports skills of the students in the entire school. The new Rotary
focus area of Supporting the Environment, was covered by planting Kumbuk and other ornamental
plants in the school premises to create an aesthetically pleasing environment with the contribution of
all Rotaractors in the team “Piyapath”.
The project “Piyapath” was launched with the aim of helping underprivileged schools. So, we were
able to successfully achieve that goal by helping Sri Sumanathissa Vidyalaya.
