Chapter 1
In the afternoon, before they were to leave the
cottage on Wood Lake, Mirabel and Twinkle took a walk
along Fox Point Road, past Blue Heron Cottage.
Everyone agreed that it would be great to have a day in
Toronto before flying back to B.C.
They planned to visit the Music Garden and have a good
dinner, maybe Japanese, since that was a favourite choice
for both girls and their families.
The girls picked some raspberries and ate them before
they got crushed in their hot palms. There were black-
eyed susans, daisies and indian paintbrush as well as
milkweed with monarch butterflies sailing around.
During a quiet moment, they heard a rustling in the
bushes off to the side of the road. There was a beautiful
red fox with a black brush of tail, quite still, staring at
them.
