3 tablespoons oil

           7-9 cloves garlic, minced

           3 tablespoons ground black bean sauce

           1½ tablespoons sambal oelek

           ½ tablespoon sweet soy sauce

           4 tablespoons water


           1 Using a sharp knife, cut a deep slit along the center of the back of the shrimp to
           create a butterfly effect. Remove any veins and rinse the shrimp under cold water. Set
           the shrimp aside.

           2 Heat the oil in a wok or large pan over high heat. Sauté the garlic until golden and
           fragrant for about 1 to 2 minutes.

           3 Toss in the shrimp, bean sauce, sambal oelek, sweet soy sauce, and water. Stir-fry

           thoroughly for 1 to 2 minutes. Once the shrimp have turned a bright pink-orange color,
           remove from the heat and serve immediately.
