In The Line of Fire 1920 - 1930
Fire Engine Number 3
1928 Graham
The First Ladder Truck
This ladder truck was purchased by the City of Kelowna on May 28, 1928 for $8,143.
The truck had a wheel base of 162 inches and was powered by a six cylinder
Dodge engine, complete with hydraulic brakes for stopping power.
In 1960 the city sold the Graham to Hubb Fire Equipment in Abbotsford,
which in turn sold it to the municipality of Uclulet, where it served until 1970.
In a public auction, it became a collector’s item and then to the
B.C. Transportation Museum in New Westminister.
The Kelowna Volunteer
Fire Department tried
unsuccessfully to retrieve
the fire truck from the
museum for their 75th
Anniversary event.
When the truck was
returned, it was
restored to its present
day mint condition
by the Kelowna Antique
Fire Apparatus Society.
It is presently housed in a
bay at Fire Station No. 2.
