Saw Mill Fire
The fire
destroyed the
machine shop,
the garage,
storage sheds
and buildings
along the west
side of the
Manhattan
Property.
April 13, 1939

Saw Mill Fire
The alarm
sounded at 1:30 am
and the fire
was out of control
when the
Fire Brigade
arrived.
The fire destroyed the saw
mill and the veneer plant.
By morning, all that
remained was a pile of
twisted and charred
equipment.
Through heroic efforts of
the Volunteer Fire Brigade,
the rest of the big plant
was saved.
