SUNDAY MORNING BLAZE DESTROYS RAYMER BLOCK
October 29, 1916
The Sunday morning blaze,
having demolished the
Opera House,
continued to engulf the
entire Raymer Block,
destroying a number
of major businesses.
Fighting against roaring
flames, strong winds and
bricks scattering in all
directions, the fire was
not subdued until
five hours later.
Raymer Block
buildings destroyed
included:
Kelowna Opera House,
Lawson Store,
Muirhead’s Shoe Store,
Crawford’s Store,
Raymer’s Hall,
Mason’s & Oddfellows Hall,
Mason & Risch Piano Co.
and a number of
upstairs dwelling
rooms and offices.
This original fire report
as shown, has estimated
losses of $135,965.
