                                 1910 Kelowna Volunteer Fire Brigade
                                       Drill practice on Bernard Ave.

                                                                                           In November 1913
                                                                                          Council resolved to
                                                                                          reward the first two
                                                                                           auto’s arriving at
                                                                                           the fire hall after a
                                                                                           fire alarm sounded
                                                                                          and then conveying
                                                                                          required apparatus
                                                                                           to the place of fire.

                                                                                             Cars to be run
                                                                                             at owner’s risk.

                                                                                              The reward
                                                                                            to be the sum of
                                                                                              $5 to each.




                       In 1912
                   the Fire Brigade
                       acquired
                   Fire Truck No. 1.
                   It was purchased
                  from Dan McLean
                    of Benvoulin,
                  and converted over
                  by Arthur Brunette
                    of the Kelowna
                    Machine Shop.

                     Jim Patterson
                 became the Brigade’s
                   first paid driver.

                                                  1914 Fire Brigade Report
                                      Sixteen calls were made, with losses amounting to $16,625
                                      of which $9,825 was recovered from insurance companies.

                                  There were 44 hydrants placed throughout the city for fire protection.
