With three-fourths of the fiscal year behind
us, the West is hitting its stride! Commercial,

putting work in place and proposing on work to establish
a solid backlog for next fiscal year. There are not enough
superintendents to go around, so don’t forget about our
referral program. A slow start earlier in the year has been made
up and the forecast is sunny.
As I’ve stated many times in the past, construction is a
team sport. This is a timely reminder as we gather input for
the implementation of Gray West’s new and improved profit
sharing/incentive program for eligible team members starting
next fiscal year. On a basketball team, if a player received a
bonus for each basket they made, there probably wouldn’t
be much passing and more likely than not, the eventual result
would be a loss. On the other hand, if a team bonus was
realized based on the team winning the game, the incentive
for teamwork creates an outcome that is greater than the
simple sum of its individual team members. Just as in the
case of Gray’s ESOP, when the team wins, everyone benefits.
This philosophical framework is driving our new program with
details forthcoming once all input has been evaluated.
