THE EXCEPTIONAL HARLEY FETTERMAN
When he got through playing, she stopped recording and just at that
moment he comically made the monster hands shake about his head to
encourage her laughter. She wished that she would have caught it all
in the video.
Harley often joked and teased nonstop in order to tickle the funny
bone of his companions. He was dedicated in encouraging everyone
to laugh and smile no matter the occasion. He was often able to create
a fun day of good spirit even in the hospital. He was ever ready to
share delight in a song. Once again, he was skilled at healing people's
sadness or concern by leading them to smiles and contentment.
Figure 154: Music therapy for all in Harley's hospital room.
This photo was taken on March 2, 2016. Harley and his family had
received word that his Bone Marrow Transplant would start in four
days. Facebook chatter overflowed with concerned friends and loved
ones sending prayers for strength and courage. Others, including Van
Wilks, commented on planning a visit to see Harley at Texas
Children's Hospital in Houston. Harley, true to self, fortified his own
courage and that of his family by playing guitar in his personalized
hospital room complete with his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle
blanket. His strumming of favorite songs, including “House of the
Rising Sun,” seemed to steady everyone's tense nerves and calm their
anxious hearts. Music fortified Harley's sense of strength and
fearlessness.
