Although your manager may have great intentions to find that big assignment for you
that will help your career, you can’t count on it. So many variables can derail good
intentions.

Put yourself in control. Go out and find that opportunity yourself!

Now, let’s consider the second reason you don’t want to count on your manager.

Imagine your manager assigns you that high visibility project but it’s not something that
you are good at doing, or worse, like to do! What a drag, right?

Instead, find a project or assignment that you are awesome at doing and will enjoy!
Something that will use your natural talents, your strengths.

Your strengths are your secret sauce. This is where you will shine. You just need to be

creative and proactive to find that opportunity.

When you find it, ask your manager for permission and how you can be involved. As an
added benefit, you will be perceived as taking initiative!
