              Using the negative
Many times, when you cut a die into some cardstock, you’re actually making two die cuts in one action – a positive and a negative.
The positive is whatever you have cut away as a result of the die design, such as a butterfly, a leaf, or a label. The negative is the space left behind after the cut, which in itself can make a striking piece for your project. You might even prefer the negative to the actual die cut!
We’ve got two different examples of how negatives can be used. One of the cards has used a couple of negatives creatived with a die set to leave feather impressions in some inked cardstock.
Our second example, using a Happy Birthday die, has used both the positive and negative of the die to cut into the top edge of a piece of cardstock. The die cut has then been stuck into the remaining space, slightly set back from the cardstock with the use of some foam tape.
If you think you’ve found all possible uses for your die cuts, why not take a look at the negative? You might find something positive!
