ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Easily underappreciated, Environmental
Services are the folks who keep hospi-
tal rooms clean and sanitary, providing
the first line of defense. The last thing
you want is to go to the hospital and
get sick. These folks work incredibly
hard—emptying trash, disposing of
biohazards, dusting and scrubbing. They
deal with “everything icky,” according to
Maria Costantino. When she worked in
EVS and grew tired toward the end of
her shift, she told herself: I will prepare
this next room so I’d feel comfortable
having my child stay in it. Clinics also
have such employees or services.
Your time. Your wine. Indulge.
