Eternal Judgement
understood and explains the true meaning of the laws, rituals
and that which happened in Old Testament times.
In so doing, HEBREWS contrasts the old thinking of the
Jews with the truth that is now revealed by Jesus.
For instance in Hebrews 12 v14 'Make every effort to live
in peace with all men and to be holy, without holiness no
one will see the Lord.' This is to contrast a life style that
comes through the presence of the Holy Spirit, working in the
life of a christian, with religious observances.
This passage goes on to tell about how, when MOSES
received the Ten Commandments and God was present on
Mount Sinai, it was so frightening that people dare not even
touch the mountain for fear of being judged by God and
destroyed. Then the passage goes on to explain how it is
different for all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Instead of touching a holy mountain Hebrews 12 v22 says
'But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly
Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to
thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,
to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in
heaven.'
It goes on to say in v23 'You have come to God, the judge
of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,
to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant.'
Here, linked together, is a picture of God in his heavenly
dwelling; those who are the inhabitants with Him and who
God is, in this context.
