Is enough, enough?
Accumulation is a funny word. We need to examine it’s
function in our vocabulary. This word tells us that we gather things
together and store them indefinitely. We often suggest Human beings
must be related to the squirrel. This is an insult to that wonderful
animal. Human beings might have similar habits to the squirrel but we
could find a better way of employing these habits. The squirrel gathers
what it needs for its nourishment and survival. The magpie also is a
gatherer/accumulator. The magpie is attracted to thing bright to adorn
its nest. The squirrel eats it’s accumulated nuts and the magpie
discards it’s hoard of shiny things once the need for the nest has
passed. The human animal however accumulates and hoards anything
often indefinitely. Have you ever cleared out the belongings of
someone who has departed this physical world? We often find it
strange that there is so much that had been stored and appeared to
have no value that we can see. The most important things in life are
readily available to us. God in his creation gave us an inheritance that
has no equal. God didn’t give us what we mostly hoard e.g. money
and other material goods. Mankind concentrates his mind on gaining
the un-necessities of life. Man becomes subservient to these un-
necessities. These un-necessities are addictive and in their lacking of
goodness can never satisfy the hunger that we develop around them.
Now think of the hours in every day we spend seeking the means to
feed this accumulative habit. We become preoccupied in life by
directing our thoughts into the procuring of things in life. Why do we
go to work or feel the need to work? Isn’t it so that we can earn the
money to buy goods with, whether those goods be a house, food, or
even a car. Think of why we need to have an automatic washing
machine – it is so that we can put our soiled cloths into it and leave
