but in so many early childhood events the child gets more
comfort from the healing cuddle of the mother than any
propriety soothing substance, and also learns what it needs to
learn from the experience. Would you rather the child realises
that it has the strength to overcome its pain and the benefits of
this painful experience, and be rewarded with love or do you
think the child is better off knowing it can avoid the pain by
rubbing some chemical on its gums, and not get any cuddles.
Other animals don’t have access to these chemicals, and their
young start to chew. Human young also like to chew at these
times.
Most signals a baby sends to its parents are misinterpreted.
Parents expect the child to learn the ways of the human and
rarely do they try to learn the ways of the newly incarnated
Spirit. There is no middle ground for communication
established. This leads to frustration and impatience on both
parts. It is interesting to note that a similar situation can also
occur in old age. The dilemma in both cases, young and old, is
this breakdown in communication is so often treated as a
medical condition whereas it is just a simple case of
misunderstanding. The physical needs, feeding and changing,
warmth and comfort are obvious, less obvious are the needs of
attention, understanding, love, assurance, and parental time.
Because of the stresses of modern society these latter needs
are difficult for the parent to access and provide. It is not our
purpose in these writings to judge humanity but to enlighten
unawareness. If we make you feel guilty about your
performance in any way, then we will see you have missed the
