unaware. When observed the resigned child will appear
perfectly normal and will begin to remove itself from the
centre of its family. It will appear contented with itself and its
real expression will occur as outbursts of frustration. The
situation will appear to come from nowhere but could be a
difficulty that the child has had for some days that was
bubbling away, gathering up power until it found a suitable
trigger to cause it to burst out. Of course the outburst if so far
removed from the cause of the frustration, it is very often
misunderstood and put down to the child having a bad day.
The child might even be punished for it's behaviour. The child
learns to bottle up it's difficulties and to conform. Is it
therefore any wonder why children are classed as
dysfunctional? The unfortunate child has learned that the way
forward is to just get on with life and forget how it didn’t get
the help it needed when it needed it. In this scenario it wasn’t
given understanding nor helped to find it. It seems these days
that children should neither be seen nor heard.
The three year old child in the western social system spends
the majority of it's third year in preparation for the year ahead.
It doesn’t yet have the concept of future time but has been
introduced to its existence by adults references to "when you
are older", "when you are bigger" etc. The child feels in a
waiting for when things happen, but first it has to adjust to the
idea that it has to go to school. Of course the adults are also
the primary promoters of this idea, as they are acting out the
accepted scenario of many generations past. The child will
have a mixture of fear and excitement. Should the child have
