FEAR UNMA S KED

The media and a seemingly unending stream of
government officials are issuing order after order for
people to shelter in place, stay at home, and not go
outside. This forces people to consume products
                       48
and services that can be delivered to their home
resulting in an increase in sales for companies that
use a delivery service or the internet to fulfill orders.
According to Quantum Metric, a data analysis

firm that analyzed the traffic of 5.5 billion visitors
to online and mobile retail websites from January 1
through the end of February, online sales have shot
through the roof. Quantum Metric looked at data
                                49
acquired from last year and this year, and saw a
massive jump in sales from people buying products
               and services from brick-and-mortar companies.

Specifically, Quantum Metric saw a jump of 52
percent in online sales when compared to the same
               time frame a year ago.
Another interesting statistic is the total number
of shoppers also increased by 8.8 percent since this
coronavirus craziness began. This is in reference to
one of the hardest numbers to move in the world
of ecommerce, which is the conversion rate. The
conversion rate is the number of people that have

to visit your website in order to make one sale. So
for instance, if it took 100 people visiting a website
that sold shoes to sell one pair of shoes, your
