accommodate their solicitation.
The house did not have a door or a floor. They
had no belongings except for the clothes on them.
So the four men that greeted them had now left
them in a windowless, doorless, floorless, and frigid
wooden cabin.
As night fell, campfire smoke filled the air in the
New Jersey Colony. Al, Captain Thomas, Bernard, and
Hugh sat around a campfire with the four men. They
began to talk about the winter. “We got about two more
months of the winter until the death toll will stop,” said
one of the four men who introduced himself as William.
They talked more about the winter until their supper,
which was mushroom stew.
