It cut through the air like a warm knife on butter.
Despite the fact that Bernard was already half-dead,
nearly freezing to death, and so tired he could just
collapse and die right where he stood, he got such a
powerful surge of adrenaline that he sprinted back to the
colony faster than a stallion.
He got back and was greeted by Hugh with his
freshly polished shoes, Al, who somehow got his hands
on whiskey, was drunk, Captain Thomas, sternly asking
what happened, and one of the armed men that had
greeted them when they first arrived on the log of
