C. Imperatives: negatives (do not + SV)

Put do not or don’t before all verbs. Including be. (There is an imperative sentence.)

Be careful when you write verb forms.
Do not be careless.
Connect two sentences with and.
Do not connect two sentences with a comma.

C1. Change each sentence to the negative imperative. Use do not or don’t.

1. You should not begin a sentence with because.
2. You should not use abbreviations in compositions.

3. You must be quiet in your laboratory class.
4. You cannot use your dictionary during a quiz.

5. You should not put an –s on adjectives.
6. You must not forget the title.

7. You must not copy from someone else’s paper.

C2. Write three negative imperative sentences.

D. One, another one, the other one

1. One is a substitute for a noun with an indefinite article (a, an).
Peter has a blue jacket and Howard has one too.
2. Another one means different or additional. It is indefinite.
My brother wants to go to this restaurant but I want to go to another one. (There are
several restaurants.)
Mary already has a raincoat but she is going to buy another one.
3. The other one shows that there are only two.
