                  E1.   Put a or an before each singular count noun. Put some before each noncount
                      noun or plural count noun.

                  E2.  Use these words in sentences: apple, orange juice, chairs, and furniture.


                  F.   Combining sentences

                  A good composition has some short sentences and some long ones. This makes the
                  composition more interesting. You can combine two short sentences to make one long
                  sentence.

                  Method 1:

                  I got up. I took a shower.
                  I got up and took a shower.
                  In the afternoon he went home. In the afternoon he did his homework.
                  In the afternoon he went home and did his homework.

                  F1.   Combine these sentences. Write the subject only once.

                      1.  Tom collects stamps. Tom plays the guitar.
                      2.  We watch television in the evening. We read in the evening.
                      3.  She is from Venezuela. She speaks Spanish.
                      4.  After class Ann went home. After class Ann had lunch.
                      5.  In the morning she drives to the university. In the morning she has breakfast in the
                         cafeteria.

                  F2.   Write five sentences like the ones in F. each sentence will have one subject and
                      two different verbs.


                                                          WRITE

                  A.  Write a composition about what you did yesterday. Use the past tense. Write some
                      short sentences and some long sentences.
