Start to Write 1
Use past tense to describe a completed action, an action that is completely finished.
I walked to class yesterday.
He lived in France form 1975 to 1980.
They were at a party last night.
Add –ed to regular verbs to form the past tense. If the verb ends in –e, just add –d. there is no
–s form in the past tense.

1. The rule for adding –ed to verbs that end in –y is the same as the rule for adding –s to
nouns. If there is a consonant before the –y, change the y to i and add –ed. If there is a
vowel before the –y just add –ed.

2. The 1-1-1 (one-one-one) rule.
if a verb has 1 syllable with 1 vowel followed by 1 consonant, double the consonant
and add –ed.
