Success Story

W&RSETA enables Kevin fulfil a lifelong dream

                  Kevin Naidoo – Bursary Scheme

nother remarkable success story from the W&RSETA Bursary Scheme is that of Kevin Naidoo who defied the odds to achieve
Ahis dreams. Living with a hearing impairment, Kevin was awarded a bursary by the W&RSETA and has completed his Master of
Business Administration degree with the Management College of South Africa. Kevin’s proudest achievement was being able to convert
his dissertation into Braille for the visually impaired to access his research.

When he was four years old, Kevin suffered an ear infection that left him completely deaf in his right ear and with only 25% natural
hearing in his left ear. Kevin is living with severe bilateral hearing loss as well as sensory loss. At school, Kevin was bullied for his hearing
impairment so he learned to lip read.

On deciding to further his education and seeking financial assistance, Kevin says he sent out over 100 emails by end November 2015,
and finally received a positive response from the W&RSETA to help him fulfil a lifelong dream of completing his MBA.

Kevin encourages other students, academics, and authors to convert their research, books, and reading material to Braille in order to
benefit visually impaired students and readers.

He attributes his success to his faith in God and the support of his wife. Naidoo is a life coach and motivational speaker; he also holds
a full-time job as a training officer at an FMCG company. He has also completed three Comrades Marathons.

Kevin’s bits of wisdom: “Love yourself, believe in yourself, and people will believe in you. Impress yourself first, then people will be
     impressed by you.”
