Wholesale and Retail Sector transitions

    to occupational qualifications

he era of occupational qualifications is finally here. After 22 years of implementation, the W&RSETA will no longer implement legacy
Tqualifications. This as the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) phases out legacy qualifications. The QCTO is
mandated to oversee the design, implementation, assessment, and certification of occupational qualifications, including trades, on
the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework. As part of this mandate, the QCTO has delegated the W&RSETA as an Assessment
Quality Partner (AQP, Development Quality Partner (DQP) and Quality Assurance Partner (QAP) to ensure that the training, development
and assessment in the Wholesale and Retail Sector conforms to its requirements.
     WHAT ARE THE CHANGES?
The W&RSETA DQP is currently realigning the unit standard-based qualifications that are linked to accredited training providers. These
qualifications have been implemented since the inception of the SETAs in 2000. The process aims to convert the historically registered
qualifications into occupational qualifications before the expiration dates. Click here for the list of these qualifications.
     WHY THE REALIGNMENT?
The realignment of historically registered qualifications aims to ensure that the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework consist
of occupational qualifications as guided by these regulations. The realignment also intends to ensure that historically registered
qualifications conform to the QCTO model.
     WHAT DO OCCUPATION QUALIFICATIONS
COMPRISE OF? New components of Occupational Qualifications:
Occupational qualifications will consist of the following three • Modular-based
components of learning: • Core elements covered
     • Knowledge/theory • Directly linked to a specific occupation
