Hyattsville Zombie Run

        By Autumn Banks
MIL completed its second year sponsoring the Hyattsville Elementary School – Zombie Run,
which was held on October 1, 2017 in Hyattsville, MD, with plenty of family and postrace fun. The
Zombie Run is a fundraiser where all racers are encouraged to dress up in costume as Zombies. It
consisted of three different races including a USATF certified-5K, the 1-Mile Kids Run, and the 1
K Family Fun Run. In its second year, the HES-Zombie Run had 100 more registered runners this
year bringing the total number to 560 registered runners and raising $43K.
The event was held in conjunction with the City of Hyattsville and benefited from other sponsors
including MIL partners Mobomo, GovWizely, and Insight Global, and many volunteers around
the Hyattsville community. The HES benefits from 100 percent of MIL’s donation, and proceeds
raised will help to enhance educational opportunities at the school through field trips, teachers’
training, school-wide computer education, field day support, as well as items such as backpacks,
coats, and school and art supplies.
Several MIL employees participated and ran in the 5K, including Natalie Robinson, Ummay
Albanese, and Suzanna Ertz, and Carter Raines served as Course Marshal for the run. His job was
to ensure the safety of all three races. To do this, Carter managed a team tasked with keeping the
race course free of traffic, helping to direct vehicles around the course, re-opening the streets as
the race finished, as well as coordinating with local police and other safety officials.
MIL is proud to support this event for a second year as well as others in the communities in which
                                      we live and work!
