brothers (FREDERICK) settled in Maryland.
It seems quite possible that the original FOY settler in Maryland was the
above mentioned FRANCIS; that it was he who married a Miss MILES; and
that they were the parents of MILES FOY. Land records in Baltimore show
a deed of gift from FRANCES FOY to MILES FOY in 1728, and a power of
attorney from FRANCES FOY to MILES FOY in 1730 (born about 1674,
died about 1751) are as follows:
From this point the AHS document goes on to cite various records which
mention the name FRANCIS and FRANCES FOY dating from 1736 until 1762.
These records relate to land grants and sales, wills, and lists of “muster rolls” for
military units in the Carolinas. In their analysis of these records the AHS
researchers state, “ Identity of name suggests a possible relationship between the
FRANCIS FOY who was in Maryland in 1682, as mentioned above, and a
FRANCIS FOY of North Carolina.”
THERE YOU HAVE IT.
And, there you have it. Set forth above are the “facts”, reported in the AHS
document which they claim establishes FRANCIS FOY as the first FOY in
America. Unfortunately, we do not have available all the information reported
as “tradition” in the North Carolina FOY family which possibly would excuse
such giant leaps of conclusion by the society. (Could it be that information was
furnished to AHS by Byron FOY? If so, from where did he get the information
and why do not FOY researchers in his later family have access to that same
information?)
We do have the writings of FRANKLIN FOY, CLAUDIUS B. FOY, and AMOS
FOY, mentioned above, but none of them reach such conclusions.
******
We mentioned above the AHS reference to an early Maryland record naming a
FRANCIS FOY as the executor of the last will and testament of DANIEL
JOHNSON, late of Baltimore County, deceased October 23, 1836.
