Demystifying The Curse Of Poverty
It is worth noting that the result of the curse may be as instantaneous
as its spoken or it may take time.
The creative power of words is what gives life to the pronouncements.
The Bible makes reference to this when Christ cursed the fig tree
and it happened immediately. Peter observes the following morning
with utter shock at what had befallen the tree.
“Then He said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you
again”. And his disciples heard him say it. In the morning, as they
went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter
remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed
has withered!” Mark 11:14&20 [NIV]
A curse may operate in limitlessness or it may be a one off! Once
it runs down ceaselessly, it remains until it is broken. Curses touch
many areas of life; from the work of our hands to fruitfulness that
it only takes a higher power to break. The curse pronounced in the
many instances is as a result of disobedience. The story of Abel and
Cain candidly validates this truth.
Take a look at the curse that was pronounced against Cain for
killing his brother, Abel. God spells out the curse in such definite
terms. The punishment is one that is not only severe but it was to
follow him for the rest of his life!
“And now you are cursed by reason of the earth, which has opened
its mouth to receive your brother’s [shed] blood from your hand,
when you till the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength;
