                                                             The deep fluted sides supported on a short foot and rising steeply to
                                                             a scalloped rim, the exterior moulded with rows of petals, covered in
                                                             a lustrous sea-green glaze except the centre of the interior with an
                                                             applied biscuit chrysanthemum flower. 31cm (12 1/8in) diam.

                                                             十五世紀 龍泉青釉菊瓣大盌

                                                             The form of the present bowl is particularly auspicious. Symbolic
                                                             of autumn, designating the time for good harvest and joviality,
                                                             the chrysanthemum was also highly regarded for its health-giving
                                                             properties and auspicious references to Immortality. Compare with
                                                             a related Longquan celadon-glazed bowl, early to mid-14th century,
                                                             illustrated by J.Ayers and R.Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi
                                                             Saray Museum, Istanbul, 1986, p.246, pl.28.

                                                             AN UNUSUAL LONGQUAN CELADON-GLAZED ‘PARROT’
                                                             INCENSE BURNER AND COVER
                                                             Ming dynasty
                                                             Rising from a tall spreading foot pierced as open rockwork,
                                                             surmounted by a parrot with wings spread and tail raised, with a cover
                                                             detachable at the centre of the back, its head turned left, with the beak
                                                             partially opened and two further holes pierced to the cover and under
                                                             the tail for the release of smoke, covered overall in an even green glaze
                                                             with natural crackling. 29cm (11 3/8in) high.

                                                             The Luohan seated in lalitasana, with his left hand in dhayana mudra
                                                             holding a pearl and the right upheld in the vitarka mudra gesture of
                                                             discourse, attired in long flowing robes tied around the left shoulder,
                                                             velvet stand. 21cm (8 1/4in) high. (2).

                                                             Ming Dynasty
                                                             The deity seated in dhyanasana, the head lowered and face with
                                                             serene benevolent expression, the hair pulled up in a high chignon
                                                             beneath a cowl falling to the shoulders, the robes cascading in
                                                             elaborate pleats around the body, fitted wood stand.
