A RARE INSCRIBED BOXWOOD RUYI

QIANLONG CYCLICAL BINGWU YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1786

AND OF THE PERIOD

The sceptre is finely carved in high relief and openwork to imitate
an aged twisted lingzhi branch. The handle is incised with three
poetic inscriptions, a cyclical bingwu year of the Qianlong period
corresponding to 1786, and a signature and a seal both reading
‘Woshi shanren’.
