AN IRON-RED AND GILT-DECORATED
‘PHOENIX’ VASE

KANGXI/YONGZHENG PERIOD (1662-1735)

The pear-shaped body rising from a tall spreading
foot to a wide neck gently flaring at the rim,
brightly painted to the exterior with two pairs of
phoenix amongst composite floral blooms borne on
meandering leafy scrolls, the neck encircled with
bands of key-fret, leaf scroll, classic scroll and ruyi
heads alternating with gilt lines. The high spreading
foot with a broad unglazed foot ring is also decorated
with bands of ruyi heads and a classic scroll.
