A RARE WHITE JADE ‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ BI
SONG-MING DYNASTY (960-1644)
The stone is carved as a dragon and phoenix, their bodies
conjoined and heads facing opposite directions, surmounting a
circular bi carved on top with cloud scrolls and the underside with
archaistic bosses. The material is of a semi-translucent, even milky-
white tone.

A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE ‘FOREIGNER AND
LION’ GROUP
YUAN-MING DYNASTY (1279-1644)
The stone is well carved in the round to depict a dancing foreigner
wearing a pointed cap, head turned to one side and arms swaying.
He is shown teasing the lion with one foot atop the animal’s back.
The jade is of a white tone with russet striations and inclusions.
