                                                                 A YELLOW JADE DOG

                                                                 SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)

                                                                 The stone is carved in the round as a recumbent dog resting its
                                                                 head on the front paws, its grooved spine and ribs rendered with
                                                                 incised lines, and its tail flicked to one side. The material is of a
                                                                 deep greenish-yellow tone with, the underside of the dog covered
                                                                 with russet ‘skin’.

    A YELLOW JADE CARVING OF A CARP

     MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

    The flattened pebble is naturalistically carved to depict a
    carp with circular eyes and side whiskers, while holding
    a lotus spray in its mouth which trails along the body,
    with a further lotus leaf carved to the underside of the
    fish. The semi-translucent stone is of a pale greenish-
    yellow tone with some milky and russet inclusions.
