A PALE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE DOUBLE

‘CABBAGE AND COCKEREL’ VASE

QING DYNASTY, 18TH-19TH CENTURY

The well-hollowed double vase is naturalistically carved in the
form of an upright cabbage, the tips of the leaves slightly curled
around the sides bearing a butterfly and a praying mantis, beside a
standing cockerel to the right. His feathers and the leafy veins of
the cabbage lightly incised. The stone is of a pale whitish-green
tone highlighted by areas of russet and white inclusions.
