A BRONZE RITUAL FOOD VESSEL, GUI
LATE SHANG-EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY, 12TH-11TH CENTURY BC

The S-curved body is raised on a faring pedestal foot, and is encircled below the everted rim with ten circular bosses,
which are interrupted by the pair of C-shaped handles surmounted by animal masks. An inscription cast in the interior
reads Ji hou ya (yi) Fu Ji (Marquis Ji. Ya (yi). Father Ji). The patina is of a dark grey color with some malachite
encrustation.

The K’ung Hsiang-Hsi (Kong Xiangxi, 1881- 1967) Collection, New York, and thence by descent within the family.
