A FINELY CAST BRONZE 'FLOWER' VASE
YUAN / EARLY MING DYNASTY
cast with a conical body tapering to an elongated cylindrical neck, all supported on a
slightly splayed foot, the upper neck detailed with a broad band of leiwen motifs and a
band enclosing a dragon writhing sinuously, all above raised horizontal ribs and vertical
flanges studded with bosses, the lower neck and body of the vessel detailed with further
bands of leiwen motifs, a band of bagua (‘Eight Trigrams’) encircling the vessel above the
foot, the foot bordered with a leiwen band, the surface patinated to a warm chocolate-
brown colour, the base cast with the eight-character inscription Su Hanchen Jian Jing
Jiangshi Zhu (‘Jiang made this vessel under the supervision of Su Hanchen’)
