A DAMASCENED BRONZE TEAPOT AND COVER
LATE MING DYNASTY
of square section, the slightly rounded body rising to angular shoulders and a short
straight neck, set on one side with an angular loop handle and a spout on the other, two
sides cast and damascened with a key-fret border surrounding a cartouche enclosing birds
and animals amidst a foliate setting, the base cast with an apocryphal four-character
Xuande seal mark within a recessed panel, the cover centred with a finial cast with the fu
('fortune/money') character, the bronze of a warm chocolate-brown patina
width 13.7 cm., 5 3/8 in.
