AN ARCHAISTIC BRONZE VASE
MING DYNASTY

cast with a compressed globular body rising from a splayed foot to cylindrical neck and
flared mouth, the neck cast with a pair of taotie mask handles suspending a loose ring and
cast in low relief with archaistic cicada lappets and a thick band enclosing two shou
characters against a leiwen ground, the lower body bordered with a band enclosing a pair
of stylised long-tailed birds interrupted by four vertical raised fillets, the countersunk base
cast with a two-character Xuande mark
