AN ARCHAISTIC BRONZE VASE, FANGHU
LATE MING / EARLY QING DYNASTY

of rectangular section, the pear-shaped body rising from a high splayed foot to a waisted
neck and galleried flared rim, a band of pendent trefoil petal lappets encircling the
mouthrim, the exterior divided into two registers by a raised double-rib band interrupted by
a pair of lion mask handles, the upper register engraved with designs of cloud swirls and a
moon with traces of parcel gilding, the lower register with a phoenix and a lotus, the
patinated surface of a warm coppery-brown colour
